1. In a small pan, whisk together the miso paste, mirin, 3 tablespoons sugar and ginger. Bring to a boil, lower the heat to a simmer, and cook for 1 minute. Let the miso mixture cool.

2. Arrange the cod in a shallow dish and coat with the miso mixture; let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes and up to overnight.

3. Arrange an oven rack 6 inches from the broiler element and preheat. Place the cod on a foil-lined baking sheet and broil until the center is cooked and the fish is flaky, 5 to 7 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar, soy and remaining sugar. Add the cabbage, bell pepper and scallions and toss to combine. Serve the slaw alongside the cod.
